Cheri Hamilton says she suggested AnnaSophia for the role

Bethany Hamilton’s mother, Cheri Hamilton, in an article from the BYU-Hawaii Student News Lab has said about the choice of actors for the movie Soul Surfer, “I suggested Anna Sophia. I think Dennis Quaid reminds me of Tom a lot and Helen is sort of like my personality.”
Earlier this month, Surfer Mag posted an article in which Bethany Hamilton talks of AnnaSophia’s role:
I actually saw her in a movie a while back, Bridge to Teribethia, and my mom said to me, “You know, I bet she could play you in the movie.” I just sort of laughed but she randomly wound up getting the part.
